Greetings! I'm Sophie Speer, a personal chef, kitchen coach, and the founder of Sophie's Table. My table is a gathering place - an unfussy experiment in the beauty of good food, collaboration, and community.
I've always felt most comfortable in the kitchen. I learned much of what I know from my mother, a talented home cook whose kitchen rules still echo in my head at all times. Don't overwork your dough! You can't remove the salt from the stew! Metaphors for life, really.
I fell in love with dinner parties while traveling in my early twenties. I lived in Vienna, Austria for two years - where my friends came from all over the world and where I held some of my first gatherings (around a foldout table with the edge of my bed standing in as chairs). I've been gathering people around my table ever since, and firmly believe that food is the best medium for fellowship.
My cooking philosophy is simple - use the best seasonal ingredients available and let them shine. I'm constantly searching for unique, vibrant produce to showcase and hope that my diners and class attendees walk away from my experiences with a new/renewed love for everything Californian soil has to offer.
With love from my kitchen,
